Behind Universe Teeth

On the third night of sleeping on the street, I realised I couldn’t do it anymore. I couldn’t take the endless wandering around to find somewhere safe — somewhere away from foot traffic, where I wouldn’t be seen, moved along, or worse, harassed. The first two nights I’d found a narrow platform behind the train station — it had three walls and just enough space to lie down. I remember how proud I was to find it. It had taken me four hours.But that third night, I couldn’t get to it. A group of locals were partying in front of the stairwell entrance, drunk and loud. I tried to wait them out. I tried sleeping inside a vending machine kiosk nearby — not ideal, but it was warm. That ended fast when a man buying coffee told me I couldn't be there and said he was going to call the police.I couldn’t believe it had come to this.Just months earlier, I had a home. I had a digital business I’d run for eleven years. I had income, security — or so I thought. Then in March 2022, everything collapsed. A Google algorithm change wiped my site off the map overnight. One update, and my work, my income, my foundation — gone.I tried everything to bounce back. I retrained, reskilled, reached out to my network. Nothing worked. Over three years, I burned through all my savings, then credit. Rent became impossible. Homelessness, which had always felt like something that happened to other people, now had my name on it.And when I needed help most, there was none. Not from charities, not even the Red Cross. Not from acquaintances. Not even from friends. I was told I didn’t qualify. I wasn’t “urgent” enough. I wasn’t in the right category.What I needed didn’t exist.That’s where Universe Teeth began.
